PLYMOUTH, Ind. – East Mississippi Community College freshman Hunter Harmon completed competition in an 80th-place tie following Friday's final-round 86 at the NJCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship held at Swan Lake Resort.
A product of Calhoun Academy, Harmon finished the four-day national tournament with a composite total of 322 (83-77-76-86) to tie with three other golfers. The Vardaman native was the fifth Lion golfer in the past six years under EMCC head coach Dale Peay's guidance to have competed in the NJCAA Championship.
Levi Fink (77-68-72-70—287), of North Iowa Area Community College, carded a 2-under-par 70 during Friday's final round to capture individual medalist honors by two strokes over Tyler (Texas) Junior College's Charlie Cameron (79-70-67-73—289) and Tanner McKinney (70-71-73-75—289), of Mineral (Mo.) Area College. Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College's Hayes Weathersby placed fourth with a final total of 293 (74-75-69-75).
Among the 128-player field, Hinds' Jordan Cole (82-76-77-74—309) led the way for the quintet of individual players competing for Mississippi-based schools with a 41st-place finish. Patrick Dickson (79-78-76-83—316), of Jones County, and East Central's Sawyer Williams (77-82-80-77—316) tied for 63rd place, while Copiah-Lincoln's Ryan Desormeaux (84-78-73-82—317) followed close behind in 66thplace.
Having led the 20-team tournament field the entire week after finishing as last year's NJCAA Division II national runner-up, Walters (Tenn.) State Community College (297-296-288-308—1189) cruised to the 11-stroke victory over second-place Mesa (Ariz.) Community College (298-297-302-303—1200). Seven-time NJCAA Region 23 team champion Mississippi Gulf Coast (306-297-301-310—1214) placed third overall as proud representatives of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC).
