SAUCIER – East Mississippi Community College's golf team placed seventh among MACJC teams during this week's Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Invitational played at Grand Bear. The two-day tournament concluded Tuesday and marked the MACJC's fourth and final event of the fall golf campaign.
Hosted by MGCCC, the tournament featured 17 teams, including nine MACJC members and other schools from the states of Alabama, Georgia and Illinois. EMCC finished 15th overall with rounds of 320 and 325 for a composite score of 645.
Meridian Community College claimed the overall team title with a two-day total of 589 (290-299) to finish four strokes ahead of Spring Hill College from Alabama (291-302—593). Copiah-Lincoln finished third at 602 (305-297).
Individual overall medalist honors went to Spring Hill's Kalle Nilsson, who finished with a 1-under-par 143 (72-71) to narrowly edge MACJC medalist Lance Strickland of Meridian (69-75-144) and Spring Hill's Jamie Guisinger (73-71—144) by a single stroke.
Freshman Joey Partin again paced East Mississippi with a two-day 155 (78-77) to tie for 31st place overall. Freshman Conner Stevens followed two strokes behind at 157 after rounds of 80 and 77. Sophomores Kent Vaughn and Michael McGill completed EMCC's scorecard with respective two-day scores of 164 (79-85) and 169 (83-86).
Coach Benji Williams' EMCC Lions will close out their fall golf campaign, Oct. 31-Nov. 1, by competing in the Belhaven-hosted Pinnacle Trust Invitational to be played at Castlewoods in Brandon.
