East Mississippi Community College sophomores Mike Farnell and Marcus Ragan have been named to the 2017 MACJC All-State Baseball Team, as voted on by the respective head baseball coaches of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.

With a Saturday doubleheader split at Southwest Mississippi, the Lions of East Mississippi Community College secured a spot as the No. 8 seed in this week’s MACJC best-of-three baseball playoff series. Winning 12-6 in the opener and falling 10-4 in the nightcap against SMCC to close out the regular season, EMCC (25-17, 15-13) will travel to third-seeded Hinds for a Thursday-Friday playoff series.

East Mississippi Community College hit five home runs to earn a road baseball doubleheader split with Itawamba Community College during Wednesday’s MACJC action played at Roy Cresap Field. Ja’Coby Cole’s sixth-inning grand slam lifted the visiting Lions to an 8-5 win in the opener, but their nightcap comeback attempt fell just short in a narrow 5-4 setback to ICC.

In a slugfest that featured 32 combined runs, 29 total hits, six errors and 12 different pitchers, the East Mississippi Community College baseball team held on for an 18-14 win over Northeast Mississippi Community College Tuesday night at Harold T. White Field. EMCC’s protest of the second game of the doubleheader was upheld by the MACJC office and resumption of play will be scheduled for a later date.

Austin Lowther’s walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the eighth gave the Lions of East Mississippi Community College a 3-2 extra-inning, nightcap win to complete a Wednesday night home doubleheader sweep over Meridian Community College. EMCC tied a season high for runs and had 20 hits in the opener to begin the evening at Gerald Poole Field with an 18-6 run-rule victory over the visiting Eagles.
