EMCC men’s golf team finishes 10th in Chris Clark Invitational at Dancing Rabbit
The East Mississippi Community College men’s golf team placed 10th during this week’s Chris Clark Invitational played at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club. Hosted by East Central CC, the two-day event was held Monday and Tuesday.
PHILADELPHIA – The East Mississippi Community College men's golf team placed 10th during this week's Chris Clark Invitational played at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club. Hosted by East Central CC, the two-day event was held Monday and Tuesday.
As a team, the Lions finished 12 shots out of seventh place with a two-day total of 644 (319-325).
EMCC was co-led by sophomores Pelayo Castillo and Whitt Welch, who both finished in a nine-way tie for 31st place. On the heels of earning all-tournament honors a week ago by finishing in a four-way tie for third place during the Mississippi Gulf Coast-hosted Tommy Snell Invitational, Castillo carded rounds of 79 and 81 this week. Welch, a Leake Academy product, also shot 160 (78-82).
EMCC sophomore Watkins Dumas, a Starkville product, was tied for 11th place following Monday's 4-over-par 76 before finishing in a 47th-place tie at 162.
Sophomore Lawson Burton, out of Itawamba Agricultural High School, jumped 12 places with Tuesday's 77 to tie for 49th place with two other golfers.
Playing as an individual, EMCC freshman Ace Rock, from Amory, tied for 60th place with a two-day total of 171 (84-87), while Prentiss product Bryce Shivers rounded out the Lions' scorecard for the week with a 175 total (90-85).
For the second consecutive week, Meridian (303-299—602) topped Mississippi Gulf Coast (313-298—611) to claim the team title of the MACCC event. Copiah-Lincoln (307-312—619) placed third ahead of host East Central (311-313—624) and Jones College (319-305—624), who tied for fourth place.
Meridian's Daniel Young (73-71—144) earned individual medalist honors with a three-shot victory over runners-up Bastian Graf of Jones (74-73—147) and Gulf Coast's Jayden Owensby (75-72—147).
Head coach Mark Furnari's EMCC Lions will return to the links at the Meridian CC-hosted Lou Hart Invitational, March 23-24, to be held at Northwood Country Club in Meridian.
