Freshman cowboy Marcus Theriot added to his already impressive list of rodeo accomplishments by claiming the All-Around national championship and tie-down roping title in leading the East Mississippi Community College men’s team to a school-best, fifth-place national finish at the 2016 College National Finals Rodeo.
For the second straight year, East Mississippi Community College will be represented by three student-athletes at next week’s College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming. With national collegiate rodeo competition set to begin on Sunday (June 12) and running through the following Saturday (June 18) at the Casper Events Center, EMCC will be represented at the week-long CNFR by all-around regional champions Marcus Theriot and Katelyn Nicholson as well as Kody Rinehart.
Culminating with a program-best, third-place men’s team regional finish this season, the East Mississippi Community College rodeo team will send three participants to next month’s College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyoming. Men’s and women’s All-Around regional champions Marcus Theriot and Katelyn Nicholson will be joined by saddle bronc rider Kody Rinehart, June 12-18 at the Casper Events Center, as more than 400 collegiate cowboys and cowgirls compete for national individual and team rodeo championships.
The East Mississippi Community College rodeo teams placed fourth and eighth in respective men’s and women’s competition this past weekend at the annual Ranger Rodeo, presented by Sycamore Bank. The three-day event concluded Saturday evening at the Northwest Mississippi Community College Multipurpose Arena.
