MERIDIAN – The East Mississippi Community College softball team registered a pair of run-rule road victories over rival Meridian Community College with Tuesday's 10-0, 13-4 sweep at Tommy McDonald Field.
While improving their overall to 9-9 on the season, the EMCC Lady Lions scored in eight of the 10 total innings played during the sweep, including a six-run frame in each victory.
In the opener, the visitors broke open a 4-0 contest by plating six runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning. Eight Lady Lion players hit safely in game one, as former Clarkdale High School standout Abby Roberts and Union's Sam Evans led EMCC's 10-hit attack with two hits apiece.
In the circle, EMCC sophomore right-hander Halie Green improved to 5-3 on the year by scattering three hits with four strikeouts over five innings en route to the complete-game shutout.
Again in the nightcap, the Lady Lions scored in all but the second inning, highlighted by a six-run third frame. With seven players combining for EMCC's nine hits, the visitors were paced by two-hit efforts from Wayne County's Jade Albritton and Tori Seymour of D'Iberville. Seymour's two doubles were part of six extra-base hits for EMCC in game two.
Though slowed somewhat by Meridian's four-run third inning, EMCC sophomore Taylor Hackney finished the contest to even her season record at 3-3. The former Bayou Academy product allowed seven hits and fanned five in five innings of work.
Coach Kyndall White's East Mississippi Lady Lions return home to play host to Pearl River Community College in a Thursday doubleheader set for a 3 p.m. first pitch at the EMCC Softball Field.
