EMCC freshmen Britney Bonney and Mackenzie Dolan collect MACJC All-State softball honors

SCOOBA – East Mississippi Community College freshmen Britney Bonney and Mackenzie Dolan have collected 2019 MACJC All-State softball honors, as chosen by the head softball coaches of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.

Bonney, a pitcher out of Madison Central High School, was named to the MACJC All-State First Team, while her batterymate Dolan, from Union, earned second-team recognition for first-year head coach Austin McNair's EMCC Lady Lions.

With 15 complete games in the 16 games she started in the circle for EMCC, Bonney was at her best during a nine-day stretch overlapping March and April when she allowed just nine total hits and only one run over 18.1 innings of work.  Included in that impressive span were a two-hit shutout over Coahoma and a three-hit blanking of Holmes sandwiched around a tough-luck 1-0 road loss to Mississippi Gulf Coast's All-Region 23 pitcher Kristen Cade.

"Britney's statistics are not a true indicator of the way she competed for us in the circle this year in the very tough MACJC conference," EMCC's McNair said.  "Despite being a mid-year transfer and not having a fall season to compete, she stepped up and did a great job for our team in giving us a chance to win every time she was in the circle."

For the season, Bonney had a misleading 3-14 record with a 4.45 earned run average along with 73 strikeouts and 37 walks in 111.2 innings pitched.  The former all-state prep standout and Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star in high school also had 11 runs batted in and five doubles at the plate this past year for EMCC.

Dolan, who caught all but one of East Mississippi's 33 games played, led the 2019 Lady Lions in home runs (5), RBIs (38), doubles (7), total bases (53) and stolen bases (13) while hitting .305 on the year.  Defensively behind the plate, the former MAC All-Star who was tabbed to The Meridian Star's 2018 Premier Preps softball team as a high school senior, threw out 14 would-be base stealers for EMCC this past season.  Dolan also posted a .558 slugging percentage with 13 extra-base hits in addition to scoring 17 runs.

"Mackenzie has one of the best arms as a catcher in our conference and she proved that all year long by consistently throwing out runners from behind the plate." McNair noted.  "Her knowledge of the game plays a big role in her ranking as one of the better all-around catchers in the MACJC."
