EMCC’s Karen Wisher and Carys Goodwin earn All-MACCC softball honors
East Mississippi Community College freshman outfielder Karen Wisher and sophomore pitcher Carys Goodwin have earned 2024 All-MACCC softball honors, as announced this week by the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference office. Wisher has been named to the league’s second team and Goodwin was recognized as an honorable mention recipient.
JACKSON, Miss. – East Mississippi Community College freshman outfielder Karen Wisher and sophomore pitcher Carys Goodwin have earned 2024 All-MACCC softball honors, as announced this week by the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference office. Wisher has been named to the league's second team and Goodwin was recognized as an honorable mention recipient.
The 15-member first and second all-conference softball teams plus 17 honorable mention picks were selected by the MACCC's head softball coaches.
Wisher, a product of Alma Bryant High School in Irvington, Alabama, topped head coach Mackenzie Byrd's EMCC Lions in multiple offensive categories this past season as the team's starting centerfielder. Along with her team-best .338 batting average and club-most seven home runs, Wisher, a right-handed hitter who throws left handed, also led EMCC's 2024 squad in hits (45), doubles (12), extra-base hits (20), total bases (80), slugging percentage (.602), and runs scored (39).
Wisher was a Class 7A All-County selection as a prep senior at Bryant High School, an honor she shared with her twin sister and EMCC teammate, Gail, a year ago. The sisters were also co-recipients of the Hurricanes' prestigious 2023 Frank Menton Athletic Award.
Goodwin, a Mississippi University for Women signee, claimed honorable mention all-league honors after ranking as EMCC's top pitcher this past season. Along with earning seven victories, including two shutout wins, and a save, while striking out 64 batters and walking only 30, Goodwin completed 13 of her 19 starts in the circle for the Lions as a sophomore. For her EMCC career, the Corinth native recorded 11 wins and totaled 101 strikeouts in addition to belting four home runs as a hitter.
Goodwin capped her prep playing days at Corinth High School in 2022 by garnering Division 1-4A Pitcher of the Year honors for the second straight year.
Both the 15-member first and second teams of this year's All-MACCC Softball Team were comprised of five outfielders, four infielders, three pitchers, two catchers, and one designated player.
Individual MACCC softball honors for the 2024 season were awarded to Copiah-Lincoln's Abby Grace Richardson for Player of the Year, Pearl River's Natalie Herrington for Pitcher of the Year, and Hinds' Mike Grzanich for Coach of the Year.
