UTICA – With five players scoring in double figures, the visiting Lady Lions of East Mississippi Community College claimed their second straight conference victory with a commanding 89-57 road win over Hinds during Monday's MACCC women's basketball action played at J.D. Boyd Gymnasium.
On the heels of last week's 71-51 home triumph over Southwest Mississippi, EMCC's 89 points scored and 32-point win at Hinds marked the program's best single-game team efforts since the 2021-22 season. That year, the Lady Lions posted an 87-47 home victory over Hinds after scoring 92 points against Northeast Mississippi two weeks prior.
This week's dominant road win over Hinds began to take shape when EMCC scored nine unanswered points after the Lady Bulldogs opened the game's scoring. The visitors built a double-digit margin in the first quarter before owning a 19-15 lead following the first 10 minutes of action.
Hinds was able to keep the game close into the second quarter until the Lady Lions lengthened a slim 27-24 lead into a 42-27 halftime advantage with a 15-3 spurt during the final five minutes of the opening half.
Following intermission, three straight EMCC baskets increased the margin to 20 points (48-28). The cushion increased to 29 points (68-39) by the end of the third quarter after the Lady Lions scored the last seven points to close out a 26-12 quarter.
Micaiah Satcher's three-pointer to begin the fourth quarter pushed EMCC's advantage to 30 points (71-41) on the way to the Lady Lions recording their largest margin of victory and biggest scoring output of the Isaiah Butler coaching era (since 2022-23).
Reigning All-MACCC guard Dukiaha Jones, who recently surpassed the 500-point mark for her EMCC career, led all scorers with a game-high 19 points. Satcher followed with 17 points, while the trio of Liberty Hughes, Cenaya Calhoun-Jingles and Zarria Shipp contributed 12 points apiece to round out the Lady Lions' quintet of double-digit scorers.
EMCC's Lady Lions (5-14, 2-5 MACCC) return home to play host to Mississippi Gulf Coast (12-3, 6-0 MACCC) on Thursday (Feb. 5) in a rematch of the year's first meeting (Nov. 13) won by EMCC (50-47) in Perkinston. Tip-off for Thursday's EMCC-MGCCC hoops twin bill is set for 5:30 p.m. at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum on the Scooba campus.
