EMCC women’s golfers continue fall slate at NJCAA South District Preview in Oxford, Ala.
East Mississippi Community College continued women’s golf fall competition by participating in the NJCAA Division II South District Preview earlier this week. The two-day tournament, hosted by Snead State Community College, was held Monday and Tuesday at Cider Ridge Golf Club in Oxford, Ala.

Coach Mark Furnari's EMCC women's trio was again led by reigning NJCAA Championship participant Lucy Lunceford, who was playing this week in her home state of Alabama. The Tuscaloosa native out of Northside High School improved eight shots and seven places from Monday's opening round to finish in a four-way tie for 23rd place overall with a 176 total. Lunceford's second-round 84 on Tuesday tied for the 16th-best score of the day among the 60-player field.
Fellow EMCC sophomores Kaylee Dufrene (New Orleans, LA/Mount Carmel Academy) and Lannee Bray (Raymond, MS/Central Hinds Academy) placed 46th and 49th, respectively. Dufrene shot a pair of 99s, while Bray made an eight-shot improvement from Monday with a final-round 97.
Florida Gateway College's Karlee Gainey (74-77—151) claimed individual medalist honors with a five-stroke advantage over Andie Kate Ramey of Northeast Mississippi CC (78-78—156). The trio of Katie Brannon (79-79—158), Katie Hallmark (76-82—158) and Emma Bark (80-78—158) from tournament team winner and reigning national champion Shelton State CC (321-317—638) tied for third-place individual honors this week.
Florida Gateway (326-340—666) and Jefferson State CC (333-334—667) followed in second and third place, respectively, among the 10-team field.
The EMCC women's golf trio is scheduled to next compete in the Jefferson State Invitational, Oct. 27-28, at Musgrove Country Club in Jasper, Ala. In men's golf competition, the Lions are slated to next participate in the Meridian CC-hosted Jim Redgate Invitational, Oct. 6-7, at Briarwood Golf Club.
